The Holsteins and Jerseys in the pasture are milked twice a day, and visitors are welcome at the barn to watch the afternoon milking from the viewing rail. A cow spends up to eight hours a day chewing — bringing food back up from the first of four stomach chambers to break it down a second time, which is what "chewing cud" actually means. Every Holstein's black-and-white pattern is unique, so if you find one you like, you can pick her out again on your next visit.
