Spotted Hyenas

Hyenas have a reputation as scavengers, but they hunt for the majority of what they eat — running down prey in coordinated pursuits that can stretch for miles, and losing kills to lions about as often as they steal them. Clans are matriarchal and can run to eighty animals, ranked in a strict social order that every cub learns from its mother's position, not its own strength. Their jaws generate enough force to crack open the leg bones of a buffalo, which is why so little of a carcass is left behind when a clan is finished with it.
