Gray Wolf

A wolf pack is a family — typically a breeding pair and their offspring from the last few years, hunting together and raising pups together until the young ones leave to start packs of their own. Their howls carry up to ten miles across open country, and each wolf's voice is distinct enough that packmates can tell who's calling. Look for the subtle signals as you watch: a lowered tail, a turned shoulder, a held gaze — the pack is constantly negotiating, and almost none of it is loud.
