Every tiger's stripe pattern is unique, and it runs all the way down to the skin — shave one and you'd still see the markings. They're the only big cat that genuinely likes water, and on hot afternoons ours will spend hours lying in the pool, which is the best time to see how well those stripes break up an outline even in plain view. Fewer than 4,500 tigers remain in the wild across all of Asia, though that number has ticked upward in the last decade for the first time in a century.
