Iris Garden

Photo of Iris Garden

Rows of bearded and Siberian iris run to a still reflecting basin at the center, the fans of foliage standing sharp and upright even between blooms. Each flower is built the same way — three petals standing up, three falling down, with a fuzzy strip on the falls that guides bees straight into the throat like runway lights. The species takes its name from the Greek goddess of the rainbow, and the beds are planted to earn it, running from near-black through copper, gold, and white.
