Hydrangea Garden

Symmetrical beds sit under high-limbed shade, with mophead, lacecap, and oakleaf hydrangeas planted in blocks along gravel walks. The blue ones aren't a separate variety — hydrangea color reads the soil, turning blue in acid ground and pink in alkaline, so the gardeners can shift a bed either direction by amending what's underneath it. Look for the two beds planted with the same cultivar on opposite sides of the court, deliberately treated to bloom in different colors.
